I saw TableMark's Homerun-Ken on sale at a local Asian grocery store and decided to pick it up since I had never seen it before. There were a few different flavors available, but I went for the soy sauce or shoyu flavor since it is one of my favorites. Will this brand be any good? Read on to find out.
Hohmuranken comes with a small package of dried vegetables which include corn, onions, and green onion. The seasoning mix is dry. Surprisingly, it did not come with oil. Usually soy sauce soup comes with some form of oil, but I guess everything is in the dry mix. The noodles are thin and you can definitely tell that they were fried. They puff up quite a bit when you cook them.
The soup base is actually pretty tasty. Classic shoyu taste, but not very strong. Good enough, in my opinion. I ended up drinking it all, so that's a positive sign. The noodles were surprisingly good. Didn't think they were going to be as great as they were. Had a nice chew to them and they absorbed the soup well.
Juliana liked this one just as much as I did. She knows her noodles! If this were on sale a lot, I would by it often. It would be good to add some type of meat to the soup to make it complete. It's definitely miss that one thing. If you see this one in the store, I suggest picking it up.
